Hello, and thank you for showing interest in learning about our story.
I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Because I grew up in the desert, of course, I wanted to be an Oceanographer so I went to college at the University of California, San Diego. I double majored in English American Literature and Animal Physiology and also took a lot of Spanish classes. What I didn’t know at the time is that seasickness never really stops, so I decided to go to Medical School. I met my wife Cindy while I was at the USC Medical School in Los Angeles. She worked as a Child Life Specialist at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena after working her way through college as a Medical Assistant. My parents retired and moved to Boulder, Colorado and so Cindy and I also decided to move to Colorado, where I did my residency and fellowship in Child Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
After our son Jake was born, I worked for 21 years at the non-profit Community Reach Center in Adams County as a Board-Certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. Because I speak Spanish, I saw many of the Spanish speaking patients. I ended up “specializing” in seeing children with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, and PTSD. I also treated patients with Bipolar Mood Disorder and Schizophrenia, including teenagers with psychotic symptoms from substance use disorders.
It was hard to leave the Center but when the chance to work with Dr. Lerner arose, I took advantage of this opportunity. I look forward to meeting you and being helpful to you and your family.
