I am married and have two sons. One is a civil engineer living in Denver, and the other lives and works in Boulder. Because I believe that physical health and mental health are so related, I have made it a point to regularly integrate physical activity and spiritual practices into my every day life. Most mornings I wake up early to read, meditate and do light exercise. I try to ride my bicycle to work as often as possible. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, especially snowboarding and golfing, and doing social things with friends and family.
I was born in Michigan, and completed all of my schooling there through medical school. I served as a psychiatry resident at UCLA, and as a child psychiatry fellow and Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of Washington in Seattle. In 1985, I moved to Denver to serve on the faculty of the medical school. I started a private practice in Louisville in 1988 and moved my practice to Boulder in 2000. I am board-certified in adult psychiatry and in child & adolescent psychiatry. I have served as a board examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology since 1987.
